Quilt Show Results!

If you have been following my blog, then you know I have been eagerly awaiting the judging results from a local quilt show.  Barbara Kiehn and I collaborated on and had 3 quilts in the Folsom, California 2009 quilt show.   Here are the results:

Quilt 1:

kimonoquilt

The first one, a silk Japanese Memory quilt seen above right after I finished the quilting, won a 1st place.  This lovely quilt was pieced from antique kimonos and featured family photos transferred onto silk by the Pixeladies.

Quilt #2:

carlainthegarden41

This quilt, titled  “In the Garden”, earned 3, no make that  4 ribbons- a 1st place, a “Best Machine Quilting” ribbon,  also “Judge’s Choice”  and Viewers Choice. The Judge’s Choice ribbon is the first time a quilt that I worked on has received this award, so a “thank you” to the judge- whomever he or she is.  And, of course, earning the Best Machine Quilting award is always exciting to a machine quilter!  Getting Viewer’s Choice is an honor as well.

This quilt was also hung with no quilt behind it so that the viewers could enjoy the quilting on the back of the quilt, too.  Another first for me!

Quilt 3: Egyptian Quilt

egypt6

The  stunning Egyptian quilt that Barb made to give to her husband won a 1st place and Best of Show!   Congrats to Barb for all her hard efforts, it was so fun to watch her reaction as we visited each quilt at the show.

I will show you pictures of all the beautiful quilts that I enjoyed at this show later on, there were some real stunners!

Before I sign off, I want to send a special thanks to Barb for being such a good friend and delightful collaborator!  Enjoy your moment!!

  1. Carla, I’m just catching up on blog reading…could you send the address for the embroidery floss. I am no longer able to do much hand work. It would be lovely to donate it to the group that you mentioned earlier.
    Your quilting is so exquisite!

  2. Way to go! I knew y’all would be winners. I think I would be most excited about the best machine quilting!

LOL, Randi! Yes, of course I am, too. This is the first time I have earned that award from this guild. Thanks for the support! 🙂

  3. I hope there were a few ribbons left for the rest of the show!!!!! Your quilting is awesome and deserves recognition and I bet you are on cloud nine as is your friend.

Can you tell me something about the collaboration thing you do with your friend. That has perked my interest and is something I might like to try with a local piecer who does execllent work.

  4. Carla
What a night!! Thanks for your stunning quilting, your friendship and for sharing the evening with me. You are a true artist! HUGS to you…

  5. Congrats to you and Barb!! What a team!! I do hope you both will begin to enter the bigger shows… MQX, MQS etc. Then us cyber friends outside of CA will be able to see these beauties in person!!

  6. If you and Barb stay in that guild they’re gonna have to up their ribbon budget, that’s for sure! I knew these were winners the minute I saw them, congratulations to both of you!

Now get busy packing them up for the next show!

  7. WooHoo! Congrats to both of you! Tell Barb to hurry up with that pattern! The bits and pieces you’ve shown are incredible and I’d love to have the pattern!

  8. Wow! Thanks for the outpouring… I sure appreciate it and I know Barb does too. Barb is the one who belongs to the guild, so it was fun to watch her bask in the limelight!

Btw, give her kudos! The guild left off the name of the professional quilter on the labeling, so Barb didn’t hesitate and wrote my name in on all 3 quilts! What a gal!

  9. Congratulations! All 3 quilts are outstanding. This must have been a fantastic quilt show. These quilts alone would make the show worthwhile.

  10. THANKS to all of you who liked “our quilts” — that’s how I view a quilt when Carla does the quilting. She is unbelievably talented and innovative and she’s lots of fun. At the show someone would turn to me and say, “the quilting is exquisite” and I’d say that’s because Carla did it — not me. LOL Then Carla would say, “stop saying that to everyone — just say thank you!”

We do make a good team and I am blessed that a dear friend of mine told me about Carla years ago. I’m floating three feet off the ground — I just can’t believe it! I’ll never have another show like this one.

  11. Congrats to you and Barb! Absolutely stunning work on both your parts. I’ll be at the quilt show tomorrow (Sun) and can hardly wait to see them in real life!

  12. Congrats to both you and Barb – your awards are well-deserved. Please enter those quilts in other shows – the quilting world would love to have more chances to see them.
