Featured Quilter

I am the featured quilter over on a wonderful machine quilting site called Machine Quilter’s Resource.  The site owner, Suzanne, asked her interview questions via email, and of course, I was happy to answer and send her pictures.  Only one problem….  seems that I was supposed to only send 5-7 photos and of course, I sent about 20+!!   LOL    Good thing that Suzanne is a good sport and ran them all!  Also a good thing that I can laugh at myself!

Trip: I’ve been making last minute preparations for my upcoming trip to Kauai!  Need to arrange the pet and house sitter, plus clean and pack.  All that is left to do is buy a hat to keep the sun off my face.  I can hardly wait… just a few more days left to go!

Organized Traveler: I always make out an itinerary for Joe and I.  In a nice, neat packet is our day-by-day itinerary, behind which is all our reservation documentation, including mapquest maps, flight and car rental info.  Does anyone else do this?    It must be hereditary because my older sister also does this, too.

Forged bracelet

Check out my new forged bracelet, a technique I learned from my instructor:

This was a fun technique to learn.  I will practice on copper, then will do my final one in silver, I think.

My mind turns to trip preparation these days.  This weekend, I drug Joe to the local dive shop to pick up snorkel gear.  I first fell in love with snorkeling during our catamaran trip to the British Virgin Islands (BVI) last summer:

I love seeing the fish, the coral reef, and underwater life.  It was so relaxing…. almost as relaxing as the painkillers we enjoyed.

Anyway, here is my new gear:

I especially love my new mask!!  It has a special prescription insert, so I may see perfectly under water.  It solves the problem of how to enjoy snorkeling if you are blind as a bat!  Last year, I made due with soft contact lenses, but I think this will work better!

Thanks to my sister, Yvette, who recommended what to buy.  I decided to add on booties with my fins because i’m prone to get blisters.  I plan on snorkeling everyday while we are on vacation, so I want to be comfy.  I also have UV rash guards for Joe and I so we don’t get too burned.

Ok, I’ve procrastinated long enough!!  Time to head to my quilt studio for some quality 1:1 time with my longarm and the quilt I have loaded.  Take care, Carla

Next Quilt Up

The quilt I just loaded onto my longarm table is this bargello heart quilt:

I just pieced the backing- which is a medium shade of the salmon color fabric.  I’ve drawn out the quilting plan, but I want to work on it a bit before I start the quilting.  Check back and I will show you my prelim quilting plan for this particular quilt, also discuss design challenges with a bargello quilt such as this and how I overcome them. Carla note: Quilting Plan is HERE.

Been busy making all the travel details for my October Kauai trip.  Thanks to Lori and everyone else who recommended what to do and places to see.  I can’t wait to go!!

So far I like the roomba… it did miss one of two spots, so I will see if it gets those places tomorrow.  So far, so good!!

A big welcome to all the new blog readers- I had a banner traffic day yesterday with about 1700 hits!  That’s a lot of hits in one day for a smaller blog like mine.

Enjoy your day!  Carla
