New Images of Fabric Crochet Purses

Lauren also took digital images of my work, too..  I love how she captured detail images of my fabric crochet purses, so I thought I would share some of these with you.    I started crocheting with fabric many years ago- inspired by generations of women who created rag rugs using old clothes for practical reasons.  I remember that the first one I made was during a Lori and Carla Creative Adventure Week, so Lori may have taught me how to crochet with fabric or vice versa.

I have taught my crochet purses/bags as a class many years ago at High Sierra Quilters, and plan to offer this technique, along with my embellishment techniques, in the future as an online eClass:

Some images of my Autumn fabric crochet purse.  The colors in this purse are quite striking and it is an easy beginner project:

Notice how well the fabric has held up over the years.  Below are some embellishment details of the front:

The leaves feel and look like suede, but instead are made with one of my techniques:

Above is the back of the purse.  Her is another color way using different colors:

I have also made this bag using spring color fabrics, here is an older image I took many years ago:

 

Commercial fabric was used in the bag, shown above, and I was starting to experiment with various types of bag closures.

Anyway, I hope you will consider taking this class when I convert it to become an online class or if I decide to teach it again at quilt stores or shows.  Take care and have fun creating!  Carla

 

Quilt Batting

I have good news to report.  Joe and I were able to recover my missing batting order.  ( FYI for non-quilters, batting is the middle layer of the quilting process, the part that makes a quilt fluffy.)

The company I ordered it from sent it to the wrong address, which I recounted in a post yesterday.  After class got out,  Joe and I went over to see if the tenant was home and knew what happened to my order.  It went smoother than I thought it would, no pit bull to rip our throats out,  no sign of obvious meth activity.

The tenant did talk about opening the box and oops, he lost my invoice.  I have to doublecheck whether I am missing one package of black batt, he mumbled something about opening it and keeping him warm at night.  My large roll, which stands about 5 feet high and weighs 40 lbs., was a bit worse for wear with the plastic torn off at the top.  All in all, I am happy to recover as much as I did.  I will call the batting company and if my order is short, they will have to send me free replacement package.

Life is good.  I have my batting.

Next month, I am gearing up to teach some more classes at my local quilt store, High Sierra Quilters.  I will be teaching my “Quilt Whisperer” class, which is a class on how to “read” a quilt and what design to quilt.  It is open to all quilters, even for people who send their quilts out to be quilted.

I also will be teaching my fabric crochet purse class.  I have a free tutorial for this project in my Free Tutorial section, but it is fun to teach this class in person.  Here are 2  samples:

Another class will be on the technique I used on my Tropical Poppy quilt.  This will be a therapeutic quilt class, we will take a large print fabric and slash away, then re-attach.  Easy quilt project, but very rewarding!  This quilt won “Viewer’s Choice” in the Gold Bug Quilter’s Show about 2 months ago:

Fabric Crochet Purse and things I like…

Happy Wednesday to you!! I’m quilting in the studio today, but I thought I would mention I am teaching a fabric crochet purse class tomorrow at my favorite quilt store. Here are a few pictures of purse samples I have made before:

Crochet Purse class

Had a fun class yesterday teaching my crochet purse. My class description touted this as an EASY project for beginners. Yes, it is THAT easy- LOL! Anyhow, I told the gals I would put pictures of the purse, front and back profile, on my blog to help them refer to until we meet again next week.

In next week’s class we will finish their project.  I will be sure to bring my camera so I may take pictures of each person’s purse- with their permission, of course.  Anyway, they were a fun group and I appreciated that they signed up for my class.

Other news: Watch for pictures of the finished inchie project, and my fiber swap, fiber charm swap, and trades.  Also for an update of Rex the Wonderhound, who has the uncanny ability to find every stray foxtail there is.  He might be undergoing surgery this morning, so I’ll keep you posted on that.

A Few AFF Purchases

While at ArtFiberFest, I was fortunate to add to my collection of art from artists I admire. They have a vendor night where many of the teachers and attendees may sell their art. Here are just a few favorite items.

Another favorite artist of mine is Syd McCutcheon. I was fortunate to get one of her scissor maiden dolls:

I was also lucky to purchase her AFF doll made for the gallery. Here is a sneak peek, but you can get a better view of this delightful doll on her blog post. It is a very appropriate purchase for the season.
