  1. Hi. I’m interested in the photo shop class. I know how to work with adobe but have no experience with photo shop. Will this be a problem? I am looking for instruction in using it and thought this might be the class. Or will I be too much of a “newbie”? TIA.

    • Hi Sally, this class is geared to beginners in using this program. No experience needed, however, you must have it installed, and know how to open it (usually double click).

Deb and Kris (The Pixeladies) are going to start out with the basics, I know.

Have you joined http://www.quiltwhisper.com/forum yet? That is my site where the class will be help. Students need to know how to use a forum such as this. If you are not familiar, you have time to do so.

      Thanks for your question! Carla

  2. Hey Carla – this sounds interesting. I do use Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac right now just to do simple editing and resizing of photographs. My question is probably very stupid, but being unfamiliar with real-time on line meetings, I must ask. Is there a certain set time of the day these would take place? I’m still working full-time, so would be limited as to the hours I could be on line to participate. I really would like to learn more about layers, etc.

    • Hi Linda, great question! The way the class works is this: on the quiltwhisper.com/forum site is where the classroom is at. Each of the 3 weeks, the PDF lesson will be posted, along with any supportive material. Then, Deb and Kris will announce when they plan on holding their real time meetings, keeping in mind some people work and some student are in a different timezone.

If you are not able to make the scheduled time, you can click on a link and watch the recording. This feature is new, think of it as a visual chat, complete with the view of the Pixeladies desktop.

In addition, there is the forum’s classroom, where students can interact with each other, post their fun, creative exercises, ask questions, and socialize.

  4. Hi Nancy, This is a forum based class, hosted on quiltwhisper.com/forum. Once a student pays, they receive an informational letter explaining that they need to register on the forum so that I may add them to the private class.

The class starts on Monday, March 14th, at which time the Pixeladies will have Lesson 1 posted into the forum classroom, along with supportive materials (such as videos, etc). At the student’s convenience, they access the Lesson, and can post freely in the private forum, interacting with the instructors, other students, posting their work for feedback, and more.

A live meeting will happen each week, the actual time will be set by the instructors. If a student cannot be available at this particular time, they can view the meeting once it is placed in the classroom, again, at their convenience.

The following Monday, Lesson 2 is posted to the Classroom. Same is true for Lesson 3, posted on Monday of Week 3.

Students may interact as little or as much as they want. Some students are very active and will post often on the private class forum. Some students are quiet, and do not wish to post. Both ways are fine, but I do think it is valuable to post the creative exercises to get feedback.

After the class formally ends, the private class site will be available for at least 6 months.

I hoped I have adequately explained the process for you. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask again. Regards, Carla

  5. Seriously thinking of taking this class. Thanks for answering my first question. Second question–a friend gave me her Elements 5 version and I have installed it. Haven’t a clue what to do yet. Your class says you can download a free version of Elements 9. Since I have version 5 I’d like to stick with it. But for the class should I use the free version 9. Can you answer or forward this to the teachers? TIA, Sally

    • Hi Sally, I would suggest you use your PSElements 5 for the class since this is the version you will be working with in the future.

Usually, the differences in versions have more to do with advanced techniques. So I would say you are good to go if you want to sign up!

I am excited about this class! I know the Pixeladies will have some fun creative exercises for you to do. I love Photoshop and use it to draw not only on quilts, but for my cartoon, my header art, my logos, etc. Anyway, Sally, I hope this helps.
