Creative in 2011

The new year brings to mind resolutions- usually to lose weight, stop smoking or other behavior.  So why not do something different this year and make a resolution to do something creative every day, week or month?  How often you choose to create depends on many factors: your energy, health, your internal drive to create, whether you work full time , and do you caretake for children or other family members?

I don’t know about you, but the thought of doing something creative every day is daunting.  Actually, when I think about it, I DO something creative most every day, so for me, this might be a realistic goal.  Though, on second thought, once a week might be  more realistic.   Or, if creating doesn’t come naturally to you, once a month is a reasonable goal to make.

Creative in 2011

Here are steps to being more creative in 2011.

Step 1: First step is to make the commitment.  You can do this privately, or leave a comment to declare your intent.  You may also blog about it and post my  badge to remind you.  To copy, simply right click and save as:

For WordPress bloggers, here is the widget code to simply copy and paste into your widget sidebar:

The badge, shown above, was created using photoshop and my tablet.  You have my permission to copy and use it on your blog or website.

Step 2: After posting the badge, consider all the various ways you can be creative.  No limitations!  Any medium will do.

Step 3: Blog about it as often as you like.  I plan to blog about what creative things I am up to at least once a week.  That’s my resolution.

That is all the steps.  Easy, right?    Oh yes, if you want to participate, let me know so that I may add a list of blogs or sites that are playing along.  Just leave me a comment with your address of your blog or website, and I will add you to the list.

Happy New Year!!  Creatively Yours, Carla

  1. Hey Carla,

I am committing to at least once a week – doing something creative. Hopefully more often, but the realistic is more like one week.

Oh- got my SIL hooked on free-form knitting after showing her one of your tutorials. She is having a blast!

    • Hi Betty, how are you?? Tell your SIL I am very proud of her!

Are you going to MQS this year? If so, it would be fun to meet up again like we did that one year. Good to hear from you, I hope you are doing well. Hugs, Carla

  2. Well it took me a couple days to think about it but… Done deal! i promise to do something creative at least once a week! Hopefully more often than that, but lets be a little true to myself hear and just go with once a week!

I’ve been wanting to get back to doing more “me” things and having someone to give a challenge might just force me to do just that. i am a quilter at heart but i have been purchasing tons of stuff for scrapbooking the past few year and have sadly used almost none of it, so now is my chance!

First “creative” endeavor of the year for me… remodeling my bedroom / new crafting room! I’ll start blogging tomorrow!

thanks for the push in the right direction Carla!

  3. I’m in and looking forward to all the things I might do in 2011. Have a huge list of easy quilting projects I want to do. And then I also am on my third year of scrapbooking Project 365.

  4. I’m in! I’ve had ideas percolating, and rounded up all sorts of reference materials, and now I’m ready to roll!

I think I do something “creative” every day, but I don’t often document it. That’s my resolution for this year, and I hope your challenge will help to keep me on track!

  5. I’m not sure this will show up. I typed one a few days ago, and it never showed up. BUT just in case…
I totally love the idea! I don’t know how to knit, but love to sew clothes, make quilts and do crafty things. I think once a week is very reasonable if you can count working on the same project such as a large quilt.

    • Hi Joy, yes, you posted in a different forum topic, called “Register Now and Other News.” Thank you for your comments. I did see it, I have been busy with the class starting.

Yes, working on a big projects counts. Thanks for playing along!
