What a great day! I was invited to attend the Northern CA Studio Art Quilt Association (called SAQA for short) meeting and what a treat that was! Thank you to the Pixeladies, Deb and Kris, for the invite, the carpool and all the fun. You twisted my arm encouraged me to join, so I did!
Thanks to Cara Gulati, who gave me lots of wise advice. I’ve always admired her work and now that I’ve met her, I can see why her students all rave about her classes! Cara will be my next featured artist, and after that, I wanted to showcase some inspiring work by the Pixeladies.
A shout out to Jenny Lyons, who stumbled upon my blog recently. I’ve long admired her sit down quilting style and work… simply amazing! I finally got to meet her, too. Jenny, drop me a comment so we can talk more about making wholecloths. LOL!
At the meeting was the SAQA traveling show. Many of the pieces were incredible! An unexpected pleasure was seeing the work one of the artists- Suanne Somers, Del Mar, CA. Suanne was the organizer of the Fiber Food swap I did a few years back.
The best part of the meeting is “Show & Tell.” The fiber art pieces were stunning! This was a large group, over 40 art quilters, and everyone was very warm, welcoming, and encouraging, too. Not being very shy, I shared my-now finished- freeform beaded green iphone bag. I plan on experimenting on a larger piece of quilted fabric in the near future.
All-in-all, it was a very inspiring day! Hugs, Carla
